Explaining our ratings

Our ratings are given by an unbias game review team. We rate games differently depending on the system, for example, a WiiWare game that gets 35/40, might only get 15/40 if it was counted as a Wii Disc-game. They are based on the system that they appear on. 35/40 is Gold Award, no matter what system it is on, meaning that these games are the cream of the crop available on Wii and DS.

0-15/40 : No Award
15-25/40 : Bronze Award
26-34/40 : Silver Award
35-39/40 : Gold Award
40/40 : Platinum Award

Okami

Okami could well be the most beautiful video game on the Wii, with the art based on a traditional Japanese style. The slick movements that the game puts on offer are a treat, and it is definitely unique to take control of a wolf, as opposed to a human. Focusing on this point, the gameplay is very interesting, with motion controls put to good use. The combat system is original, and the enemies are very stylish. The cage-style combat is done well, with it representing a curse, showing the Hurculean effort that has gone into the game. The story is also very deep, with the characters having personailites - and also having a history, unlike in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. Focusing more on the plot, it is simple enough, but at the same time showing a much deeper storyline for those who have the ability to read between the lines. The picturesque scenery is a feast for the eyes, as well as the textures being very detailed. There are some stunning moments in the game, such as the point where you restore the saplings, and a wave of life ripples along the ground. The are also some hilarious moments such as the first time that you meet Waka - God's gift to man. The gently arching difficulty level is well introduced, offering a steady increase in complexity.

39/40
